Black Utilities Engineer | Athlone
We’re currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity with a leading global pharmaceutical organisation based in Athlone. The position sits within a significant manufacturing and engineering programme and will have responsibility for the reliability, compliance, lifecycle management and continuous improvement of critical black utility systems within a cGMP environment.
Duties
- Lead CQV strategy and execution for black utility systems including chilled water, LPHW, steam and compressed air.
- Drive utility start-up readiness, system handover and performance verification activities.
- Develop maintenance strategies and establish handover requirements for utility systems.
- Monitor system processes and plant performance to improve reliability, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct utility risk assessments and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Maintain high-quality technical documentation packs for utility systems.
- Support operation and maintenance of major plant utilities including cooling towers, steam systems, electrical distribution, fire protection, water and waste systems and dust extraction.
- Troubleshoot system failures and support deviation investigations with maintenance and engineering teams.
- Support construction and commissioning activities within an operating manufacturing facility.
- Monitor plant data and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, sustainability and carbon performance.
- Coordinate effectively with operations, maintenance, EHS, contractors, vendors and project teams.
- Support training and technical capability development across engineering and maintenance teams.
Education & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Process Engineering, or equivalent.
- Typically 5+ years' experience working directly with industrial plant utilities within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of GMP requirements.
- Previous experience supporting construction and commissioning activities on live manufacturing sites.
- Practical experience with steam, chilled water, LPHW and compressed air systems.
- Strong technical documentation and stakeholder management capability.
- BMS and CMMS experience would be advantageous.
