R&D Scientist
Although the majority of roles within operations of medical device companies are focused on engineering, scientists play a crucial role in the development of new products and in the improvement of existing products. An R&D Scientist understands the current range of technology e.g. materials, they take it, obtain customer input and do all the design work and bring it through to producing a product in the market place. R&D Scientist understand and conceptualize the new technologies and the NPD group will take it and develop into a product. R&D Scientists are passionate about research and have a long term view i.e. could be working on new product technologies for 2-3 years
Key Requirement of R&D Scientist

Maintaining up to date knowledge in areas of responsibility, including customer needs, latest technologies and relevant scientific understanding in the area

Researching and developing new technologies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

Preparing reports, writing technical papers and providing technical presentations to develop reputation and market presence.

Identifying and directing vendors responsible for material supply and process development

Planning, scheduling and initiating activities to support research and development projects in areas of technical competence

Monitoring project schedules and ensuring successful and timely completion of project activities

Assisting Marketing and Operations personnel with technical expertise and as required, meeting existing or new customers/vendors.

Research & Development - including concept development, sourcing/selection of materials and components and the evaluation of same

Evaluating new technology performance and stability

Supporting future product introductions

Accomplishing trial work for new technologies

Working with patent counsel to support patentability/infringement searches and preparation of patent applications
